30 Aug 2018: What am I to do?

21st Week in Ordinary Time

R1: 1 Cor 1.1-9; Gospel: Mt. 24.42-51

Today’s readings draw our attention to what a Christian should be and should not be. As Christians, we are people who are waiting to see the face of God, at a time we do not know. So we need to make ourselves ready every moment.

In the first letter to the Corinthians, we read, we are called to be God’s holy people, who have been endowed with graces necessary to witness to him and to wait for him, to be made partners with him in his Kingdom. In the Gospel, we are shown the plight of the person who thought he knew better and did not live up to the ‘consecration’ and found himself banished from the kingdom.

Let’s pause and reflect as to where I belong? The beauty about this is that we are endowed with the knowledge which is found in the scriptures. In this life time of examination how thorough am I with the text book?
