Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, archangels
Reading 1Dn 7:9-10, 13-14; Gospel Jn 1:47-51
Jesus certifies Nathanael as a true Israelite without guile. Curious as Nathanael was asking the Lord how He knew him. Jesus surprised Nathanael, telling that He saw him sitting under the fig tree. Then comes the reply of Nathanael that Jesus is the Son of God.
The very words of Jesus would reveal that the call of Nathanael was not an incident, not something that happened by chance but a plan. He was already chosen by Jesus. That personal encounter was only to confirm it.
Each Christian call is like that of Nathanael’s. We are Christ’s disciples not by chance but by choice, not our choice but of the Lord. We already existed in His plan. He saw us before we were born, made us His own, and gave us the freedom to find Him as we live in this world. Such is the greatness of our Lord; our call itself is a miracle.
