21 March 2020; Mercy above all

Saturday of the Third Week of Lent

Hos. 6.1-6; Lk. 18.9-14

God seeks a repentant heart. As repeatedly reminded God sees our heart. The master story teller’s  parable of the tax collector and the Pharisee is the example par excellence to confirm this statement. Being the better among the lot doesn’t make anyone worthy of God’s mercy.

Our distorted sense or knowledge of God makes us think that certain practices whatever it be, pleases God. Any devotion or practices that are devoid of a heart does not please God.The tax-collector had nothing to offer, but, his heart, with all its shortcomings, yet, repentant. The pharisee justified himself. But, God justified the tax-collector; because, God sees our hearts. For he desires mercy and not sacrifice, and knowledge of God more than holocausts.
