Wednesday of the Second Week of Advent
Readings: Is 40:25-31, Mt 11:28-30
Jesus places an invitation to find rest for our souls. The gently and humble Jesus exhorts to find rest for our souls. But that exhortation comes with the condition. Jesus who states, “Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest,” also adds a command to shoulder His yoke and to learn from him. The rest for the souls comes not just by coming to Jesus with the heavy load (worries, anxieties, guilt, etc), but by laying them all at the foot of Jesus and taking up his yoke and learning from him. It is in our effort to take up the yoke of Christ (i.e. love) and learn from him that we find rest for our souls. Today, let us resolve to surrender everything unto him, and take upon ourselves the yoke of love, ever pouring from his pierced side.
Lord Jesus, may the precious blood and water, ever-flowing from your side, wash me and purify me, as it helps me to be filled with your love – the authentic rest for our souls.
