Wednesday of the Sixth Week of Easter
In the Gospel today we have Jesus, nearing his own death, pouring out the depth of his love for his beloved disciples, who within a brief time will be left without his presence. He spoke these words at the Last Supper, as he gathered with his disciples, sharing life with them. The disciples were not among the most intelligent. Their formation from Jesus was not yet complete. They did not know all the consequences of their discipleship. His words and actions comforted and strengthened them in ways that only the Holy Spirit might help them to understand. Taking inspiration from this let us to turn to the Holy Spirit who gradually unfolds God’s message to that it speaks to us at appropriate times in our lives.
