Memorial of Saint Ambrose, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
Reading: Is 30:19-21, 23-26, Mt 9:35–10:1, 5a, 6-8
The Gospel reading presents a scene where Jesus has compassion on the people who are like sheep without a shepherd. Immediately, He does not ask His disciples to venture into action; rather, He exhorts them to pray to the Lord of the harvest. Only then He instructs His disciples to proclaim, to exorcise, and to heal by giving them authority.
Let us give heed! Every mission and every initiative should begin in prayer as Jesus shows us an example. When we pray, God comes into scene and every circumstance changes for the best as the firt reading explains. We become capable of making correct choices in life: “And when you turn to the right or to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘this is the way, walk in it’.” (Is 30: 21)
Prayer: Lord, give us the spirit of prayer and the spirit of discernment.
