Thursday of the First Week of Advent
Readings: Is 26:1-6, Mt 7:21, 24-27
The houses built on rock stand strong amidst numerous calamities, while those built on sand fall for a slight disturbance, is the context in which Jesus invites everyone to do the will of the Father. What is really necessary for our life is to do the will of the Father which is equal to building a house on a strong foundation. To do the will of Him, we should know it. To know the will of Him, we should listen to Him.
Jesus tells the disciples, “Father, the words that you gave to me I have given to them” (Jn 17: 8). Jesus has communicated the will of God to us and the Bible has it in black and white. Now it is our duty to listen, get to know and live by it. And by this we have our building built on a strong basement, allowing us to enter heaven.
Introspecting how far our lives are in conformity with the word of God, let us say with the psalmist: Lord, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path!” (Ps 119: 105)
Prayer: My God, increase in me a love for Your word.
