Saturday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Today through this gospel Jesus warns us about the need to be prepared. He says watch yourselves or your hearts will be coarsed by debauchery and drunkenness and care for life, and the day will come upon you unexpectedly. This saying of Jesus must actually make us think seriously about our life. Because how many of us will be in a position to say that I will be able to go happily from this world if I am called by God now? Lots of rumors are going around us about the end of the world, especially these days. We hear about the prediction and prophesies of people who claim themselves to be divine and authentic. At least even if we don’t think about our life after death when we hear it from Jesus, are we able to think about it when it comes from the human beings, mere mortals? The strong warning of Jesus is to think about the life after death and the need to be prepared. Because we won’t be able to say at what time he will be asking us to join him. So we must be ready at anytime, anywhere. The great saints all live with their end in mind. Death was a healthy meditation that moved them to live the present day to the full. Death is the door to our real life so the mere fact of thinking about it must help us to live our life better.
