It is important to say thanks! It is important to think about gratitude!

While we are coming to the close of another year it is important to take a moment to say thanks. Though it is our hard work that brings success gratitude is one of the most important elements for a happy living.

One can have different ways of perceiving gratitude; however, I would like to see gratitude as an attitude rather than a feeling. When I am filled with an attitude of gratitude and when thanksgiving becomes my daily discipline we learn to be thankful in all circumstances.

The best way to become grateful in life is to start count the blessings that we have received. Making conscious effort to write down daily three to five things that we are grateful for every single night is a good start. However, as we are nearing the end of another year let us set aside some time to write down the things that we are grateful for in the past year.

Build Your Altars

‘…. Built an altar” an often-quoted phrase in the Old Testament. If we analyse them we can see, after every experience of God man responded by building an altar.

Eg. Gen. 8: 20 Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

Gen. 13: 18 So Abram moved his tent, and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron; and there he built an altar to the LORD.

Jud 6: 24 Then Gideon built an altar there

What do these incidents communicate to us? They tell us that we too need to build altars in our lives. These altars were not just expressions of worship to God; they imprinted a memory in the minds of the people regarding the historic intervention of God in their lives. So even when they felt the absence of God, they were able to go back to these altars and find those experiences alive.

So, we too must build altars in our lives on our experiences of God. Then when we are faced with doubts about his presence we will be able to go back to these altars to re-strengthen ourselves.
