Friday after Epiphany

Reading 1 1 Jn 5:5-13; Gospel Lk 5:12-16

Today’s readings invite us to bear witness to Jesus our lord. In the reading John tries his level best to destroy the heresy which held the concept that Jesus was only human when He died. John gives three main elements to prove that Jesus was Son of God when He was baptised and when He died. He affirms this concept by quoting the Spirit of the Lord that dwelt in Jesus and through the blood and water that poured from His pierced heart.

In the gospel we see how Jesus heals the leprous man. It is by His own wish He healed him. And that man too bore witness to Jesus, inspite of the warning given by Jesus.Being a Friday we are also invited to reflect on the love of Jesus for us. Friday reminds us of the divine mercy of Jesus. This again helps us to confirm the divinity of Jesus through the same blood and water gushed from His side.Just like John the apostle and the man in the gospel, we have also experienced the love of God in so many ways. But have we ever bore witness to his love…?

Friend, let us try to bear witness to Christ and may our life be yet another witness for others to affirm that the Jesus who loves us and the Jesus whom we love is the only Lord and only Son of the Living Father…
