Readings : Gen 28:10-22a, Mt 9: 18-26
Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Truly, Yahweh is in this place and I did not know it”
One of the curses of the 20th c. may be that we are aware but do not want to change. Because, they have become our comfort zones and those comfort zones have evolved to be the lords of our lives. But we find a contrary attitude in the life of Jacob as we read it in today’s first reading. The moment he becomes aware of God’s presence as revealed in the dream, his entire outlook changes and lives in His presence.
We live in a world where materialism has gained an upper hand and has caused spiritual degeneration and loss of faith. We find around us lack of enthusiasm and emptiness when it comes to the matter of spiritual dimension of life. It is only because we are not aware of the presence of the Lord despite the fact that He comes after us. The words of Jacob might sound true in each one of our life; “Truly Yahweh is in this place and I did not know it.” The reading of today invites us to discover the Lord who is ever present amidst us and live a life worthy of our calling in His presence.
