Tuesday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time
“Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.” (v. 35)
In the Gospel today Jesus presents the true character of his family. He considers the absolute obedience to the will of God as the only requirements to be part of his family. Just like the other Marken narratives, here too Mark presents a complete detachment from the closely related and an attachment to the community of disciples, who have followed him responding to the will of God.
The question that we can ask ourselves is, can we be part of Jesus’ family? Yes, we can. Then, how? In today’s Gospel Jesus answers it saying ‘by doing the will of the God.’ It places a further challenge in the life of each one of us that is to accept every human being as a brother and sister.
