Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary
1st Reading: Is 9: 1-6 Gospel Reading: Lk 1: 26-38
Queenship of Blessed Virgin Mary
Today the Church celebrates the queenship of our blessed mother, reminding each one of us that she has been crowned as queen of heaven and earth. Let us join the Church in singing praises of her and surrendering ourselves to her. As the queen of both heaven and earth, she can be our powerful intercessor and a wonderful guide.
The Gospel of the day presents to us the annunciation of angel Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary said ‘Yes’ to the call of God being assured of the arrival of the Spirit and the overshadowing of the power of the Most High. She remained faithful to this commitment until the end of her life. As a result, she is crowned as the queen of heaven and earth.
We too have said ‘Yes’ to the Lord by our baptismal promise to leave sin and to become his perfect disciples. Let us commit ourselves to this ‘Yes’. May our blessed mother stand us a model and guide. Let us together journey to enter into the Kingdom of God.
