20 September, 2017: Rise above Criticisms.

Wednesday of the Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time.

Reading 1: 1 Tim 3: 14-16; Gospel: Lk 7: 31-35

Today’s gospel portrays the frustration that Jesus went through. John the Baptist’s austere life is criticized as being crazy and Jesus behaviour is also criticized as that of a glutton and a friend of tax collectors and sinners. But Jesus still went about doing good. This passage is a challenge for us to be open to the criticisms in our mission or work place. It is not easy to satisfy all in our mission. We should be clear about our mode of fulfilling our mission. Today is the right day to pause and ask ourselves – am I open to criticisms? Am I ready to accept the unpleasant moments as I accept the pleasant moments?
