Saturday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time
Reading 1Gal 3:22-29; Gospel Lk 11:27-28
In today’s gospel, we see the role of our lady in the salfivic mission of Christ. Listening to the life-giving words of Jesus, a woman from the crowd praises our lady saying: “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breast that nurtured you.” The answer to this Jesus says: “blessed are those listen to the Word of God and fulfill them. It is true that Mary carried the Son of God in her womb and nurtured him with her own life. But for Jesus Mary is above all human calculative thinking and imagination. He presents Mary as an exemplary model for us. The greatness of Mary is that she listened to the Word of God when the angel Gabriel came with the good news. Although she had to face so many challenges like public shame, doubt of her fiancé Joseph, yet she obeyed the Word of God with great zeal and enthusiasm. The fidelity to God’s word made Mary a legend: She is always full of grace and blessed among all men and women of all times.
