13 February, 2018: Being Human

Reading: Jas. 1. 12 -18; Gospel: Mark 8:14-21

In today’s Gospel, Jesus warned His disciples to protect themselves against the leaven of the evil principles and practices of Pharisees, Sadducees and Herod. The Pharisees were a lot, who strictly clung to the traditions of the elders. In their foolishness they believed that they would be saved if they followed the ceremonies and traditions of their forefathers. They were men who believed in their material wealth, than in the providence of God. They were a hypocritical lot, which honored God with their lips, but had their hearts away from Him. Their foolishness, their hatred, their hypocrisy, their unbelief, and their mischief were the leaven which Jesus warned His disciples. They were all men who prohibited themselves from God’s offer of salvation.

Let us pray that we may be aware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Herod in modern times that we may not become like people of traditions and laws rather we may become more human like Jesus our master and trust in the providence of God than material things and pleasures.
