10 July 2017: Miracles!

Monday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1: Gen. 28: 10-22A; Gospel: Mt. 9: 18-26

Today’s Gospel gives us a glimpse of how Yahweh’s promise is fulfilled through the person of Jesus. “…through you and your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed” Gen. 28:14. Jesus not only brings the expired daughter of the synagogue’s official back to life, but also cures a gentile who was severely bleeding for twelve long years. All they had to do was to believe in him – believe in him against all odds, believe that nothing is impossible for God (Jesus).

Some people say that miracles are nothing but a suspension of the natural law. Others say that miracle is an extraordinary concurrence of ordinary events. As for myself I am convinced that miracles are but the actualization of one’s faith – faith that nothing is impossible for God! The faith of the synagogue’s official and that of the gentile woman is simply spell-bounding! How could Jesus overlook such faith? Of course, it was Jesus who made it happen. But how right he was when he said “… your faith has saved you”.
