Wednesday of the first week in Ordinary Time
1st Reading: 1 Sam. 3. 1-10, 19-20; Gospel: Mk. 1:29-39
In the Gospel today we have Jesus busy with his ministry of healing. He reveals himself as the doctor of both soul and of body. Jesus, on entering the house of Simon immediately heals his mother-in-law; after that a multitude of people afflicted by every kind of sickness – physical, psychological and spiritual. Through this Jesus shows a particular predilection for those who are wounded in body and in spirit. Jesus’ desire to cure the suffering is a central part of his ministry. For Jesus, healing and restoring health came first. May we too learn to be sensitive to others’ suffering and do our best in alleviating the same.
