Parenting is not just being parents, it’s a divine call of God, to a man and woman who are joined together in the holy sacrament of matrimony. It has a divine purpose.
For ages the cycle of human life has continued. Children are born, they grow up and have children of their own. One generation dies and is replaced by the next. But only few have wondered: ‘what is the purpose of all this?’ Only few have questioned themselves: ‘why do I exist?’ Have you thought about it in that perspective. Life is not only about getting married and having kids. There’s something more to it. When God created human beings in Genesis, he said in Genesis 1:26: “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness.” This means that we belong to the family of God and we have to develop the very character and mindset of God himself and then pass it on; we need to pass the baton to our children, who will see the nature of God in us and desire to have a family of their own with God at the centre of it.
But most of us are totally unaware of our calling in life and we get so worldly that we begin to give prominence to things that really don’t matter than to things that do. That’s why Goethe, a famous German writer once said- “The things that matter most, must never be at the mercy of things that matter least”.
